Music & Cheese this Bank Holiday Weekend
Mr & Mrs OtterVale have had a rare few days away together, combining three of our biggest loves in food, friends and music. Our two biggest/littlest loves were left safely with Granny & Grandpa OV, who are surely off baby sitting duties now for the rest of the year!
We managed to combine going to see Foy Vance, Ash, Snow Patrol & more “nornirish” music at Ward Park 3 with meeting new food friends who seem like old food friends, given our digital relationship with them! First up was calling to see the incredible @BelfastBBQ at Arcadia Delicatessen, & taking in Belfast Spring Continental Market where we spotted The Wiltshire Chilli Farm and had a right old natter.
We were a bit gutted to miss out on Snow Patrol’s new hot sauces made by Belfast Hot Sauce, with proceeds going to Music For All – but that’s the only thing we could possibly have missed out on this weekend, and we’ll hope to make up for it next time!
We also got to travel to Sheridans Cheesemongers‘ 10th #IrishFoodFestival – what weather, and what a buzz! Fantastic to see so many artisan food producers there from the four corners of Ireland, to see Blas na hÉireann awards, Artisan Cheese Awards & Great Taste Awards proudly displayed; and to soak up the optimism & welcoming vibe.
As many of you know, Mrs OV likes to combine the vetting, microbiology & eating aspects of cheese, so she loved meeting the makers as much as trying their carefully crafted cheeses. She told Mr OV it was all prep for her Academy of Cheese Level 2 which she hopes to be able to sign up for asap, so 🤫🤫🤫 😂
Thanks to Kevin Sheridan for signing her increasingly well-travelled copy of Counter Culture – up Donegal indeed. She promises to get the ex-Fingal Library book all the way up to Carndonagh next time she’s home, in homage to Mam Sheridan!
We also got a triple whammy of Sheridans, as we spotted their biscuits and chutneys in the rather special Sawers of Belfast and the gorgeous Avoca Belfast. Great things happen in threes! If you’ve not been to any of these places, be sure to put them on your list.
Mr OV is out delivering this week as our driver Mark is having a well-earned break. Mrs OV is combining taming our half-term toddlers with catching up with emails and the rest of the day job, so fingers crossed… We hope you had a great bank holiday weekend too!
